Jess: Hi, I'm Jessica McGowan, pension transfer specialist at Riverfall financial and I'm here with my client Lindsey to talk about her recent final salary pension transfer.

What made you seek advice?

Jess: Lindsey, this was a really big financial decision for you, what made you look at your options in the first place?

Lindsey: Firstly, I'd seen a couple of articles in the newspapers talking about final salary plans and how good some of the options were and then a couple of colleagues at work started to talk about it and that just coincided with Riverfall phoning for a general chat and catch up.

What’s been the biggest benefit of working with Riverfall?

Jess: Okay, fantastic and how important was it for you to feel that we were being unbiased in our advice and looking at all sides of the coin in terms of leaving or staying?

Lindsey: That was really important to me. I absolutely wanted to make the right decision but I wanted all of the facts and figures in front of me and I wanted that to be totally unbiased so that I could make the decision on the information. Whether it was tax information, whether it was around retirement planning; that I could actually weigh the different information myself.

How has Riverfall made a difference to your lives

Jess: Lovely, and our advice was ultimately to transfer you away. What options has that opened up for you?

Lindsey: So probably the biggest point is around flexibility as to when I can retire and how I can use that money in retirement, so whether I could go part time or whether I could retire earlier.  Also, the benefits from my husband in taking semi-retirement and hopefully also managing some of the tax implications around that as well.

Jess: You have got a large investment now that we need to make sure lasts for the rest of your lifetimes. How important is it for you that you trust the people that you work with in that respect?

Lindsey: Again it's so important, trust is absolutely implicit in that for me it's more than trusting them, for me I have to actually like the person I'm dealing with, have to feel they're on my wavelength and they can understand where I'm coming from and what myself and my husband want from our retirement planning going forward.

Jess: Okay and final question. What would you say to somebody that might be considering looking at their final salary pension options?

Lindsey: Well I’d say absolutely exploret hem, don't make any rash or quick decisions, make sure you've taken the time and that you know all your facts and figures, make sure that you trust the people that you're talking to and then only after all that make the decision dependent on your individual circumstances.

Thank you Lindsey.

Transferring out of a Final Salary scheme is unlikely to be in the best interests of most people.
